Business Process Engineering requires a detailed understanding of the target organizational structure, the people who make up the organization, the available technologies, organizational goals, and budgetary constraints, as well as the current process. To manage this complexity, NCS employs a carefully designed four step process to help organizations understand, re-design, and optimize their business processes. Our process is based on years of experience with many client engagements.
Planning and Scope: The purpose of process is to support and facilitate the goals of the organization. The first task is to define the organizational goals, to provide a foundation against which to evaluate process. NCS Technologies will work with management to crystallize these goals, and will then analyze and document the current processes. Then, by examining the processes in their organizational, technical, and vendor environment, new goals and a high-level strategy for improvement are derived. With that vision in hand, NCS works with the stakeholders to define a roadmap to attain the improvements and the attendant ROI.
Process Re-engineering: During this phase, the processes are evaluated against the business goals. Starting with the results of the Planning and Scope step, the team will design improved processes that meet the technical and organizational constraints. The improved processes will have well-defined milestones and metrics. The goal is major improvements by eliminating wasted or duplicate activities, reducing cost through automation, and streamlining the overall flow.
Change Management Phase: The re-engineering step may recommend major changes to technology, to the way people perform their jobs, or even to the structure of the organization itself. Changes of this magnitude can be stressful to the people and to the technological infrastructure. Change management seeks to reduce this stress, and increase the effectiveness of the change, through outreach, education, and knowledge-sharing. It helps ensure that changes to the three pillars of organizational effectiveness - people, process, and technology - are implemented smoothly.
Project Execution: Working with the re-engineered process design and the change management plans, NCS Technologies will use project management techniques to execute the changes. This will include any required software development, package integration, and other technology changes, as well as coordinating organizational changes. Execution also includes ongoing monitoring of milestones and metrics as established in the re-engineered process, thus enabling ongoing process improvement.
In addition to our many Business Process Engineering engagements, NCS Technologies applied the four-step process to its own processes, to develop the SRO Value Creation Framework.
